Project Description

HMS Gannet

The Royal Navy’s HMS Gannet search and rescue unit covers some of the British Isles’ most hostile and treacherous stretches of water and land, often in some of the worst weather conditions in the world, resulting in the most challenging peacetime flying there is. The unit’s personnel are totally committed to the welfare of others and the aircrew frequently place their lives at risk in the effort to save another’s. In recognition they have been awarded with 11 Operational Honours for Bravery which include three Air Force Crosses, one Queens’ Gallantry Medal and three Queen’s Commendations for Bravery in the air.
